What is Appleby Horse Fair?
Appleby Horse Fair is one of the oldest and most famous horse fairs in the world. Traditionally attended by Gypsies and Travellers, it’s a unique gathering where horses are bought, sold, and paraded. It’s a colourful, lively event that draws thousands of visitors each year who come to witness horse trading, trotting on Flashing Lane, and the iconic sight of horses being washed in the River Eden.
