Origin & History
Ardennes Horse The rdennes Horse originated in Belgium, Luxembourg and the Ardennes region of France.
The breed is believed to be over 2,000 years old. Julius Caesar described them as “rustic, hard, and tireless.”
History has seen it as a war horse – Napoleon’s Russian campaign and pulling artillery in WWI.
Stamina was increased with Arabian blood and size with Belgian Draft blood, yet its original characteristics remained.

Build: Broad chest, strong legs, compact body, heavy head and feathered fetlocks
Coat Colors: Main colors – Bay and Roan, as well as Chestnut, Gray, Palomino. Black rare and usually out of registration.
